based in gouda/utrecht
rayn explores their environmental surroundings to question our existence within it. they focus on the in-between where the tension between apparent opposites don’t cancel each other out but instead create space where multiple perspectives coexist. the value we assign to materials plays a significant role in their work. recurring themes include what is shaped and what remains untouched, construction and deconstruction, control and vulnerability.
fascinated by what is still becoming, such as foundations and frameworks meant to carry rather than to be looked at, rayn draws attention to these quiet supports shaping our surroundings. each work makes the fluidity of meaning visible, which is always shaped and reshaped by context and environment. just as humans continuously adapt and change, their work reveals how significance is never static but constantly evolving.

rayn bevraagt diens directe leefomgeving en vertaalt observaties en gevoelens naar installaties en sculpturale werken. die richt zich op overlappende betekenissen en schijnbare tegenstellingen van materialen en ruimte, waarbij de associateies die we hiermee hebben en de waarde die we er aan toekennen belangrijk zijn. gefascineerd door constructie, tijd en vorming, waaronder fundamenten en structuren, wordt met het gemaakte werk de aandacht gevestigd op het ongeziene van onze binnen- en buitenwereld.
